BUM BUM BAR 63-14 ROOSEVELT AVENUE, QUEENS, NY OPEN EARLY 1990S-PRESENT (BUM BUM BAR, PICTURED) "Queens hotspot Bum Bum Bar is now third-generation gay-owned: New owner Danny Hart has taken the torch passed to her from the bar’s previous leading lady, Connie Idavoy. On Saturday, March 12, Hart threw a huge party to honor her predecessor, Idavoy — and usher in a new era for Bum Bum Bar. At Hart’s hotly anticipated party, dancers/shot girls Jasmine and Stephanie served free Jell-O shots topped with whipped cream, and of course, danced for the crowd. Two bucks got guests a Fireball shot to spice up their night. In an exclusive interview with GO prior to the party, Hart revealed that the event doubled as a birthday bash, complete with cake and a 'happy birthday' serenade courtesy of Bum Bum bar. DJ Doli, a 22-year Bum Bum vet, spun sexy Latina grooves well into the wee hours. Hart explained in her convo with GO the origin of the now-legendary Bum Bum Bar’s name. 'The word ‘Bum Bum’ is actually Brazilian. It means ‘the booty of the women,’ said Hart. 'In Brazil they have a contest called the Bum Bum Contest, and it takes into account the whole physique of the woman, including the butt and waistline.' The two gay men that opened Bum Bum Bar named it after the contest in homage to their beautiful women customers. The venue has since become a Queens community fave and continues to crank out countless events and bar specials that draw party-goers from all five boroughs. Popular nights include 'Wacky Wednesdays' and 'Throw Back Thursdays ,'  both offering a 5-8pm happy hour and no cover charge. Saturdays at Bum Bum are now 'Sabado de Rumba Total,' and 'Bingo Fun Sundays' come complete with karaoke, a 5-8pm happy hour and no cover charge. Bum Bum’s doors open at 5pm and don’t shut ‘til 4am. The new Bum Bum Bar boasts some svelte new décor and features a back patio that allows for cookouts on warm summer nights and serves as a space for smokers in colder months. If you want to celebrate your birthday at Bum Bum, they offer a special package that includes cake (with sparklers on top!) and singing. They also handle all the decorations and add sparklers to said cake for extra flair. Bum Bum’s maximum capacity is 175 people, so you can easily invite your entire crew out to celebrate. Prior to taking the reins at Bum Bum Bar, Danny Hart served our country and city in the Army and as an NYPD officer, respectively. Hart has always demonstrated a strong commitment to giving back, and her goal of ensuring that Bum Bum Bar proudly caters to the lesbian community she deeply cares for should prove no different. While putting her own spin on things at Bum Bum, Hart says she plans to continue some of Idavov’s traditions, such as a huge Pride party and a giant New Year’s soiree with complementary bottles of champagne. Saturday’s party was only the beginning of what’s sure to prove an amazing era at Bum Bum bar, reborn with Danny Hart at the helm. Drop in Bum Bum soon, shake Hart’s hand, and let her welcome you into the Bum Bum Bar family." (Shea Carmen Swan, Go Magazine, 2016)
